Do all forward gears work properly? How many miles are on the vehicle? Is the trans fluid clean and full?
Has the check engine light come on?

Chances are if the light comes on, there is a sensor or module problem with the transmission. Have the computer scanned for codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Let me know what you find.
