1989 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

i have a 89' ford ranger with a 2.9 v-6. When driving and a bump is hit the engine cutts out but never completly. The truck will kick and buck but will not stall alltho there have been times I thought it was going to. I have looked for lose wires and broken conectors but I have had no luck in fixing this problem. Plz help
