I have a 1988 Ford Ranger that failed Smog. It failed for high NOX and also for a leak in the evap system. I am going to change the EGR valve to fix the high NOX. However, I'm not sure about the leak in the evap system. Should I change the gas cap? Is there a simple test to find where I might have a leak? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Only test you can do is a smoke test or a vaccum test on the system. But you cant do that without the proper tools.

Only other option is replace the gas cap and replace all the vaccum lines. The hole could be the size of a needle head and cause that code to show up.
