Ford 400 distributor pin shearing off why?

Hi, 1978 Ford 4x4 400 truck, recently installed a new oil pump and the distributor roll pin holding the gear on sheared off within a couple of miles. The distributor was getting sticky anyhow so replaced it with a new one as well and sure enough the pin sheared off within minutes again. Truck ran fine before installing new pump, just thought while replacing needed gaskets might as well replace old pump as well. Any thoughts?

Although my truck is 1978 ford converted 1ton 4x4 4spd. My dad had a engine put in it after our accident in '97. The mechanic put a 460 in it and it ran for a couple of years and now won't go over 55mph w/o breaking a distributor pin. We have put 3 distributors pins in, including on steel pin and all ahve broke. Our friend says its either the cam shaft is broke somehow or the oil pump is bad. And while this is happening to us, the egine blows blue smoke. So either way we're screwed.
