1989 Other Ford Models Exhaust manifold

It is an Econoline 350 motorhome with a 460 motor. Exhaust manifold is getting hot to the point of creating a fire inside by the right passenger side. The manifold starts to become glowing red with heat within 10 minutes of driving 35 mph and the engine is loading up with a decrease of power.

Hello

It could be a couple of things. It could be a burned or leaking exhaust valve or two on one side, poor combustion may due to bad wires and plugs on that side. I would do a compression check for sure.

I don't have access to that vehicles manual, but you can look underneath and see if you are running dual exhaust and there is a catalytic converter on that exhaust. Many times those get plugged and cause this.
