I need to replace the thermostat on a 1964 1/2 mustang with a 170 inline 6 cyl engine. Is the thermostat in the front of the engine and do I need anything else besides the gasket and new thermostat?

The Tstat should be somewhere on the top of the engine. Usually if you follow the large radiator hose from the radiator and follow it to the engine there it should be. All you'll need is the right socket or wrench and the gasket. And a scraper to get any gasket material off. And some coolant for any coolant that might be lost.

Make sure you do the work on a COLD engine. Drain the coolant out so you don't make a complete mess when you take the hose off.

Good luck!
