ROUGH IDLE

I have a 1970 Ford Mustang w/302 engine. Car has low miles and the engine is strong.

Car has had some minor overheating issues, but will only want to overheat when driving at high speeds or climbing hills. I can cruise all day long driving between 10-50 miles an hour.

Coming home the other night from a 30 min cruise I got the car going a little faster than 50 miles an hour and could see a very small amount of smoke or steam coming from the engine. I immediately slowed down and coasted the car for a bit to cool it down and then parked it. Popped the hood. No burning smell or no leaks. Everything seemed fine. Then when I put it in gear to put in the garage, the car started to idle rough. I just parked it and turned it off. 4 days later I started the car up to see what gives and she started up perfectly, but is idling rough in park and in reverse or drive.

Also, when I pulled the car out of storage 1 month ago and was putting the spark plugs in one of them made a slight crack noise when screwing it in.I pulled it back out easily and there was just a small crack on the ceramic so I reinstalled it and have been driving the car fine until now.

I'm wondering if my rough idle problem is because of the spark plug or something else related to the engine or cooling system?

The cracked spark plug would definately cause problems. Replace it. I would also service the cooling system, flush it change the thermostat and see if that helps. You my have a thermostat not opening when it should.
