Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Ford Mustang 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I'd rate you a 100% if I had the points but I just started today.
The 1998 Ford Mustang had a slight momentary squeal from under the hood after I "punched" the throttle to pass someone. It has an engine service lite lit. Autozone's tester showed it as a code PO884 and said it was a faulty CMP cam sensor.

I called the Ford Service Dept and talked with the rep who said it was probably the faulty synchronizer.

Would you please give you give me your views
Thanks a lot

The 1998 Mustang has 85000 miles on it. The lady didn't drive it in the winter and is kept in her garage. It is just starting to be driven now that the winter snow is leaving Buffalo area.

It did sound like a belt chirp after I accelerated and then stopped afterward. The lady said ithe sound lasted about a minute but stopped afer the car moved on down the road. But she said the engine warning light remained on
Thanks
