My last Mustang GT (1996 V8, manual), Trixie, had this same problem. For years. She would over heat and then spew water. After over a dozen visits to my mechanic and many new thermostats, etc, I broke down and took her to the Ford dealership for an "official" diagnosis. They could not figure out the problem either, but offered to remove and clean my radiator for $700 and give it a look-see. The following week I drove to the closest dealership to my house and bought a new car. When I parked in their lot, I casually bent down and pretended to tighten my shoe laces so that I could see if she was leaking profusely. Luckily she was not and I was able to trade her in for a brand new Mustang. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that if this has been a long running problem, you should try to sell it while you can. But not to anyone you know. That would just be mean. Sadly, not everything can be fixed. Good luck with your situation.
