Engine Performance problem
1987 Ford Mustang V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

After replacing the distrubitor and replacing spark plugs and spark plug wires the engine back fires or makes a loud popping noise from the exhaust.

The car had been sitting for months without running can you lend any insight as to what would cause the noise problem?

Make sure the firing order is correct and you installed the distributor properly and timing is set.

Make sure the #1 cylinder is firing on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke.
