will an alternator from an 85 mercury topaz work in my 87 crown vic. On a website it showed that both had the same replacement alternator. Was wondering if they both used the same

As long as it puts out eh same amount or close to the same amount of amps. It will be stamped on the front half of the alternator. Also you may have to change the clocking, in other words make the bolt holes/where the wires hook up in teh same place.
