I recently installed a 390 cu in motor in my car. This engine was rebuilt. When driving the temp runs around 200 deg. In slow traffic or going up hill it may go to 215 or a little higher. I nstalled a 195 thermostat. The radiator was cleaned and checked. A couple of people told me to install a lower thermostat? Will a exttra fan work? Any help will be most appreciated.

Is it equipped with a clutch type fan? Is this perhaps not operating properly. A lower operating thermostat should lower the temperature, unless you have a cooling system problem.

Hi
Yes a lower thermostat will help assume engine is a 60's era ie. Non pollution. If yes drop to 160 deg. A Hayden electric fan is great idea you can get rid of fan gain @15hp.
Let me know what happens
Sorry about delay
