1978 Ford Fairmont Ignition Switch

My son's 1978 Ford Fairmonts key will no longer insert completely. I was trying to remove the ignition switch to replace it but I cannot remove without the key in the ignition. Any other method to remove and replace the ignition switch without the key being inserted?

Have you tried a different key? The switch needs to be in LOCK to remove it successfully. Perhaps a visit to your local locksmith can help you out with turning the switch without a key, if a different key does not work.
