Vehicle is 1999 Ford F250 4x4 with about 79,000 miles. The manual says not to use a fluid for dual use such (Mercon and Mercon V). Specifications say to use Motorcraft Mercon ATF, can just Mercon V be used? Is the dual use they speak of the ability to use the fluid to replace something other than transmission fluid?

Thanks

Could blow seals not good! Drain with a pump you can attach to a drill and use appropriate rubber hose as required with trans/hydraulic fluid--check with parts store on hose type

My brother has the very same truck, he used the mercon v and it messed his truck up. So in good advice I would say use the motorcraft mercon atf.

I think dual use means that the manufacturer claims the fluid can be used in fords and gms.
