I am having a problem with the replacement of my parking brake cables on my F250 reg. Cab full size box pickup. I did a complete brake job including new drums. Brake cables were frozen and I replaced them now when I try to put the cables into the holes where they belong they are 3 inches short of joining up to the front cable. When looking at the cables with the length there is it almost looks like I need to move the parking brake mounting bracket on the side of the frame ahead by about 2 inches to be able to join up to the front cable and still maintain the pre load on the parking brake.

Hi there,

It sounds as if you have the wrong cable, did you check the length against the old cable carefully? I would go back and re check the length first.

I checked cables and they are the correct length. Problem is the preload system I had to make a jig to draw the cables forward. I used a extra long cloths line tightener one end has a regular single hook and the other end has a twin hook set up. Placed single hook into a hole in truck frame then place twin hook over the joining piece that has parking brake cables already attached. Tighten as you would tighten a cloths line untill the front cable will go into it's proper place then remove jig. You will need at least 10 inches of tightening ability.
