I am working on a 1979 ford f-250 with a 400 ci. 6.6 liter v-8 and it has good oil pressurearound 50 psi until it warms up then as it warms up it slowly drops to 15-20 psi. My question is is it normal and safe to drive and if not what can I do to fix the problem

Hi there, Hot idle oil pressure of around 20 psi is fine, what is it hot at around 2000 RPM? Are you checking the readings with a mechanical gauge?

I went and bought a mechanical gauge today and I am not sure wht the rpm is it does not have a tach unfortunately I know the rear main seal is going bad and I am in the process of changing that along with the front main seal, oil pump, and pan gasket but the problem is it is my only mode of transportation so I need to know if it will hurt it to drive short distances until I get these things fixed I do know that even when the pressure drops if I push on the gas the pressure rises with the rpm's that is all I can tell you sorry I can't be more specific

Hi there, as long as the pressure rises with engine rpm you should be ok, but don't push it to hard.
