99 Explorer XLT 4WD 112k vibration under acceleration

1999 Explorer XLT 4.0 sohc, 4wd. 112000 miles.
Whenever I accelerate hard or drive in slippery conditions there is a strange vibration that comes from under the console in between the front seats (transfer case?) It doesnt seem to happen or be pronounced under normal accel. But between 45-75 its pretty bad. Help!

I'm not a mechanic, but have had U-joint fail and it causes vibration like you describe under load. When you left off the gas it stops vibrating, but you may still hear a noise directly under the car. U-joints are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace.
