Hi:
First remove the neg cable from the battery then the positive. Make sure not to touch both battery terminals at the same time with anything that will conduct electricity. It will short. Next remove the battery hold down, finally the battery. Reverse the order to replace it.

I was told by a mechanic that before disconnecting the

cables of the battery, the cables must be connected to

another battery to prevent memory loss.

Yes there will be memory loss but you can reset things.
