The light shows that the 4-wheel drive is disengaged, but it is driving like it is engaged. How do you disengage? and what can this mean?

can you jack up the vehicle and see if it is shifting out of 4wheel drive or not?

yes, it was jacked up and it is not going out of 4 wheel drive.
