My 99 Ford Explorer has an intermittent problem with its idle. During some attempts, the key would be turned; the engine would fire and then die. To start the car, with foot on the gas to keep the amperage up, the pedal must be held to the floor. It will not idle and I noticed today that the "check engine" light went on. I saw that the oil pressure gauge was not registering. Eventually, the engine would turn over and I can drive.

First get that check engine light scanned, it will make it easier for me to help you if I know what the code is that is being stored and it will save you time and money.
