Where is the transmission control selonoid on my tranny? Its the 4 liter v6 with the a4ld 18 bolt tranny? Its not grinding so I know the gears are fine, and the bearings. It wont shift by itself I have to run the rpms up and let off of the gas and then it will shift any knowledge on this malfunction would be helpful. Do I have to drop the tranny or can I get to the selonoid from the pan?

There is no transmission control solenoid on this one. Your problem is the vacuum modulator. It is located on the right side of the transmission. Verify that it is receiving engine vacuum at the vacuum line. If it is, then replace the modulator.
