Headlights Stuck in ON position

My kid jammed his knee into the on off switch on his 86 ford escort and I can't turn them off. I had to remove the pos on the battery to get them to turn off. (Late at night and just didn't have the light or time to find the fuse). How do I get to the switch to replace it? I would like to take the dash out to repair it since it has a large crack in it and thought it might make getting to the switch easier but do not know where to start? This is a 1986 Ford Escort L. Any ideas?

First, do not use the positve cable to kill the electrical! Pull negative now then reconnect pos.
If you reach under the dash for the switch in the back you will feel a button, press it or pull it and you can pull the nob and shaft out of the switch, then undo the connector, then unscrew the nut on the dash!
