Fast idle

I have the '99 escort 2.0 spi with the fast idle in the winter temps. So far everything I tried has not worked, even the ect sensor that you guys suggested. I was looking through the schematics and noticed that the clutch pedal position switch has an effect on the idle speed, does that sound like anything that could be connected to it idling fast? There's only a few sensors left that can effect it and the clutch sensor seems the best choice right now. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated

A vacuum leak can cause a fast idle, leaks could be in any of the hoses or vacuum-maintained systems, or leak could be in one of the gaskets, throttle body, intake manifold, o-rings, around fuel injectors, the extra air leaking thru will promote a fast idle. Cracked hose or loose fittings, an old trick is to pour soapy water over fitting and watch for bubbling, indicating air passage- hence a leak. I seen my dad do this. Its a place to start - good luck with this
