While driving home in a terrible rain storm a pickup splashed going past me and a wave washed over my ZX2. The battery light immediately came on and the temp guage went WAY up then slowly went back down to nothing. I kept driving and after about 6 miles the temp went back to normal but I noticed when I tried to turn the power steering was out. Then my tac started jumping up and down for a minute. I made it home to my dry garage and shut it off. No overheated smell. Would not restart. Checked the next day and started but battery light is still on. Belt is still there but I am not sure if it is engaged. Could a big splash of water knock out the alternator? Would that cause power steering issues as well? I don't have any credit cards so I can't donate. Sorry.

Yes it is possible if the water made it to the alt. That it has shorted out. It would also cause poor power steerign. You can have the alternator tested at most local part stores for free of charge.
