1999 ford escort, 122000 mile, 5 speed transmission, 2.0 l DOHC engine. 2 to 3 weeks ago it started accelerating roughly intermintitly. Now it is a constant problem. Car surges and hesitates when accelerating or trying to maintaine a constant speed. Car starts fine and idles normaly. Check engine light is working, but has not come on with this problem. Fuel filter was replaced one year ago

Has it ever been tuned up? Is there a check engine light on? If so have it scanned for the code/codes and we can go from there

Car had tune up one year ago. Fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs and wires, gas cap and idle air control motor were all replaces. Fuel system recieved cleaning
