1998 Ford Escort stop light switch

Have replaced the stop light switch 6 times in the last 7 months. What is causing this switch to keep going bad? Ideas?

Check that you do not have an earth leak in the brake light circuit, but even this should not affect the switch, is switch burnt out or failing physically?
