I have a 98' escort zx2 and the timeng belt has gone. The shop has quoted $1300 because of a special tool needed from ford, is this true or am I getting the (cam) shart? (Ha ha)

Hi: I am not a pro mechanic, but for what its worth.

Since you know the scope of work to be done, I would recomend you call around. The 1,300 sounds very high. As for tools required this should not be an issue for a qualfied mechanic.
This is assuming the failure did not cause internal engine damage.
