1995 Ford Escort Hesitates from stop and thunk when shifti

When taking off from a stop, the car hesitates and then just gains speed VERY slowly. It's like it misses 1st gear or something. It doesn't do it all the time, but I can see no pattern. Also, sometimes it 'thunks' quite strongly when shifting. Again, not all the time. Transmission fluid level is normal. What else can we check?

Hi there,

There is nothing else that you can really check except for a scan if you have the equipment, otherwise it is time for a transmission specialist to do a test and report on this for you as I feel it is a pressure related internal problem.
