My van has had a ruff idle since I have had it been to two shops one told me it was map sensor. Replaced that not the problem. The other told me I need a new lower intake manifold. So I took it to my uncle who is a mechanic he said I had a bad head gasket. I am not sure what to believe. If I have a bad head gasket and it has been driven like this for a year or two. What are the chances that is the only internal problem? Is the 4.2 worth rebuilding I use the van for flooring so I Haul a decent amount of weight. What is the average price for a head gasket repair? Do you have to pull the engine to make the repair? The symptoms of the van are ruff idle sudden engine power loss and stalling.

If the van has been experiencing this prob lem for 2 years then I would think the intake gasket is causing the low vacuum and engine misfie due to running lean. I doubt very much its the head gasket. There are tons of service bulletins about the intake gasket causing running rough problems from leaking internally. Id bet on the shop that diagnosed the intake gasket personally.
