Electrical problem
1999 Ford E-Series Van
----------------------------------------------------------------
This morning my father tried to open his van, but the automatic lock release didn't work, and when he tried his key it also wouldn't work on any of the locks. We are baffled as to what might be the cause and how to even begin to fix it.

Hi mrsratbag,

You sure he got the correct set of keys?

If the key don't turn in the cylinders, they could be stuck, try using some rust remover to spray into the cylinders and try again.

Yes, both he and my mother tried their keys in all the locks, but to no avail. I've never seen a problem like this. It worked fine yesterday!

Hi mrsratbag,

I'd rather say they got the wrong set of keys.
Maybe they got the wrong vehicle ;)

You would almost think so, but it is indeed the correct keys and the correct vehicle (pretty distinctive). I've never heard of such a weird thing myself!

Hi mrsratbag,

Guess you need to get a locksmith to get it open.

Make sure the car registration is correct, we don't want anbody to be charged for attempted car breaking.
