Broken hood latch

Hello
I have a 1999 ford contour.
I have been trying to get the hood open to jumpstart the car since the batteries have died but the latch does not the job.
I'm looking for a way to get the hood open and was wondering if anyone could help?

Happend to me on my 97 ford taurus and after pulling the release inside the car and spraying some wd40 on the latch area (through the grill) I used a small pry bar with a towel on the car to pop the hood opened. Be carfull, if a medium amount of pressue does not opent he hood, then a large amount probaly will not either and just cause more damage.

Give that a shot.
