My teenage daugter saved her money and bought this 99 Contour. It seems to be running fine but we notice a slight leak or dribble on the ground from the transmission. What should we do and should we be concerned? It is maybe 3 or 4 small drops. Do you think a stop leak additive would help or would it damage something. Would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you VERY much1

I would take it by a shop and see if they can see if they can find the leak. Let me know what they say may be I can save you some money.

We had a mechanic. Not a transmission mechanic look at the the car overall. He said the car was an older car and that would be expected. He said to take it to a trans expert if I was really concerned. I haven't done that as of yet as it is only a few drops. My daughter is 16 and I was trying to make sure it is ok. I don't know if the stop leak additives are good to put in or if they really work. They won't do any harm will they?

Are you able to see where the leak is coming from? Before you put a stop leak additive into the transmission, check to make sure the leak isn't coming from something simple, maybe a improperly tightened drain plug or something.

Is the transmission a manual or an automatic?

I would think that the mechanic that did check it would have tightned whatever it was if he was able to, he is a pretty reputable mechanic, but not a trans mechanic. It is a automatic 99 v6 contour. I will take the advice of both of you and not add the stop leak if you think that it is not good. I will keep my eye on it and hope it dosen't get worse. It seems to be a very good running car, body is in good shape, clean inside and out. It has 67,000 miles and she paid 3700.00, is that a fair price? Wish us luck with that leak!
