Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Ford Contour 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 182*** miles

i have a question about my contour, I was just driving into a parking lot when my car turned off, when I try to start it it gives me a high pitched whining noise and does not seem to even try to turn over, any suggestions?

Hi there,

This may be a faulty starter motor, it could be the starter spinning at high sped and not engaging the engine, check this out first.

Ok, I checked this, but the timing belt still spins and everything, so the starter is engaging. How loose should the timing belt be, and how would you go about setting the timing of the engine?

Hi there,

OK, if the engine is turning over the starter will be OK, the timing belt should be firm and have no slack, I will not be in a position to post any info from the data base for a day or too, so I will see if another mod can take this up for you.
