The headlight switch has a built-in circuit breaker that trips when it overheats and resets automatically when it cools. It sounds like the switch has a bad (dirty)contact inside. If you want to save money(not time)take the switch out and spray inside with WD 40 and work the switch several times. Sometimes this prolongs its usefullness. If the problem continues, replace the switch.
