1998 Other Fiat Models noise when steering on full lock

when i put full ight steering lock on my 1998 fiat punto 60sx, there is a loud clunking noise, what could be the problem?

Might need inner sockets or outer tie rod ends on the rack and pinion.Lift and support the front of car and try moving the wheel with the column locked to see if there is any play in it.
