I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 4x4 with a LR4 4.8. My 8th letter in my vin is V. When looking at 5.3 crate engines for that year specific application almost all companies i've seen specify their engines will only work with vin's with the letters t and z. Can someone please explain what the difference is as I know the blocks are the same from the 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0. Thank you.

Good morning,

It is about fuel controls. The 5.3 and 6.0 have cylinder cut-out features for the economy.

If I were you, I would take your 4.8 and build it. Have the block done by having it bored.030 over, a nice cam, and have the heads done. You will produce more power than any of the crate engines you buy.

Just my opinion.
