Engine not turning when joined with gearbox

Hi. I have recently overhualed my vw 2.0i engine. The engine turns fine out of the gearbox but when I fit it with the gearbox it doesnt turn at all. Im putting the engine in my golf mk1 with a 4speed gearbox. The engine runned very well before with the same gearbox and flywheel but now its cracking my head because it doesnt wanna turn with the gearbox. What would possibly be the problem?

Is the gear box ok, not locked up, it is a manual?

It a 4 speed manual gearbox. Its not locked up because I tired turning the drive shaft while the engine was out and the rod turned simultaneously with the shafts, but when I put the engine it doesnt turn.

When it is bolted up will it turn if the clutch is pressed down?

What happens if the transmission is in neutral and you try and start the engine?

I managed to make it turn. The problem was the fitting. Its turning now.

The clutch may have been a little out of alignment, goog you got it sorted out, thank you for using 2carpros
