Bought petrol and since then the car engine check light came on. When I start the car in the mornings it gives a sound like its losing power/buck.

First make sure that the petrol filler cap is on tight (if its a non cap type of filler that is okay). Get a scan done and report back what the code is so we can check it out and advise what has caused it to come on, start here.

I would not expect that the range switch would be the cause, I would clear the code and do a general tune and see if that improved things, a faulty range switch would normally stop the engine starting, I would also get an on demand transmission scan done, this will look deeper into the transmission electrical system, just in case there is a deeper problem there.

Yes it sounds like the transmission range sensor is out and needs to be replaced. Here is a guide to help you test to confirm the failure.

Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Yes the RPM and range sensors are not the same thing. I found another transmission diagram to help us get the problem fixed. (Check it out below)

Please let us know what happens.
