These questions are always hard to answer unless the engine was an option for the vehicle in the same or similar model years. The technical answer is yes, most any engine can be made to fit into any vehicle. The question is how hard and how much work it will require to get it to operate.

The fact that this engine doesn't appear to be an option for the Corolla in any model year that I can find so I assume it is coming out of a different vehicle?

If that is the case, then you will not only need to modify the mounting location but you will need a transmission that will work or at least an adapter bell housing (If they exist) so that the engine and transmission can be married.

This is all just to get the engine physically in the vehicle. Then we are going to have a whole bunch of hurdles to get it to run including wiring, modules, and needed sensors. Then once it is running we have to think about axles and suspension as that will most likely need to be altered to be able to get the vehicle to even move.

Long story short, unless you have the patience and ability to accomplish this I would suggest looking for a kit that you can swap an engine into the vehicle. This is the route that I would personally go because even though I could figure all this out, it would be cheaper and easier to look for a kit. They make all sorts of different kits that come with everything you would need to fit the engine and get it to run. Just do some internet searches and you will find all sorts of options.

Let us know if you have other questions.

Okay, so the engine I’m wanting to try and put in the 1993 Toyota Corolla is out of my 2009 Hyundai Elantra. I mean engines look almost identical. So even if I was to put the engine and transmission in. What about the computer and what nots? I was thinking swap the whole wiring harness as well from my Elantra if that would work? Only difference I know of is the Elantra has electric power steering and the Corolla doesn’t. Reason i'm wanting to do this is the Elantra’s totaled but engine and transmission works great the Corolla's has a blown engine so it’s no rush just trying to be more cost efficient if it’s worth it.

That would be a good candidate then but I would recommend before you get too far is pull them both out and sit them next to each other. Then you can really compare mounting locations and other possible fitment issues.

Clearly we don't have any information about this being done and it may have never been done but again, mounting it is the hardest first step. Once you get it mounted in there, using all the other engines harnesses and modules would be required. Don't forget about the immobilizer system because the PCM will not be unlocked if you don't move that over as well.

I attached below the detail about the immobilizer you will need to move.

Okay. Well, I am almost finished pulling the Corolla engine/transmission. Just have to unbolt the Elantra, already got the wiring harness off. I’m only working on it 1 or 2 days out of the weekends. I’ve looked everywhere and couldn’t find a real answer. But thanks for your help and input on it. I’m going to try and get it done over the next few weekends.
