So I had never worked on a car in my life and I got this for free (first car as well). I replaced the rocker arm gaskets and messed up the emission hoses in the process and now it has no power like before and I can't figure out the diagram. Any help would be appreciated.

Good morning,

Can you upload a video of the top of the engine so I can see what you see?

I need to see how you have the hoses hooked up so I can help.

I attached a vacuum hose diagram for you to view.

Okay, that did not help that much.

Disconnect the EGR valve and drive it and see if it has power now.

Okay, I understand.

The reason I asked about the EGR is that you may have the wrong hose on it and it may be open when it should not be open.

If it is open, it will be a massive vacuum leak and will run poorly.

The hose I had hooked up to it was pulling air.

Okay, it should not.

Again, disconnect it and drive it and see if it runs better.

Okay, so it doesn't run any better. Another thing I noticed was that when stepping on the gas my car sounds very loud almost like a muscle car and it didn't before.

Thank you.

I do not like the noise at all. That is an engine knock.

I would take this to a shop and have them listen to that noise.

Did you do anything with the valves when you have the covers off?

Give them a copy of the hose diagram as well so they can check each hose for the proper routing.

Sadly, I don't have the time or money to be taking this car into a shop. I'm right in the middle of a move and thankfully my wife has two cars that work. If I do end up doing anything you'll be seeing more of me. Haha. Thank you so much for the help anyway!
