Electrical problems

I apologize I just sent you a message about problems with my van. I also forgot to mention that I did check all of the fluid and did check the battery. I took the battery cable off just to see if it would reset the gauges on the thing on the dash. Did notice on the positive cable there was burnt plastic, but it was on the cable so I do not know if that affects anything or if there was burning any other place. I cannot really tell. Please get back to me.
