Traveling over ten to fifteen miles on the highway the brake light and the battery light will come on at the same time appears to have a possible short because it will sputter and quit. It appears to do okay over short distances these lights may not come on and things appear to be charging I have replaced the battery and used a multi-meter to test at an idle and it appears to be at 13.8.

Seems like the alternator is failing and is intermittently not charging. The brushes could be worn and is intermittently not contacting fully resulting in the non charging condition.
You need to test the charging when the light turns on.
The brake light is related to the charging warning circuit.

Thank you it is a good place to start. I have read on line with issues of this year from alternators to wiring harness and apparently there was a recall years ago. I have recently purchased the vehicle at a decent cost.
I appreciate your time.
