I have received a DTC1339 on a 2018 2500HD Duramax with the L5P 6.6L engine. My scan tool explains that it related to the #3 cylinder Glow Plug. Reading a post from a BMW 5 Series owner on this Forum it is related to either the crankshaft or camshaft positioning sensors. Can you help clarify?

Hi,

Was the glow plug in cylinder two replaced or removed? According to my manual, it is specific to cylinder 2 and not 3. If so, the glow plug control module has not learned the glow plug offset values. If a glow plug has been replaced and the glow plug learn was not performed, or if the glow plug control module experiences an EEPROM error or data corruption, this DTC will be set.

There could also be an issue with the EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) that can set it. What I recommend is to relearn the offset values and clear the code. See if it returns.

I attached the directions for the relearn procedure below. It will require a scan tool that can perform the reset. A basic scan tool won't do the trick.

Take a look and let us know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Jacob,

Thank you for your prompt response. The scanner was beginning to perform the relearn task when I realized the battery was below 11v. Then the truck didn't have enough battery power to turn over. I am charged Ng my boost pack in hope to start up and let the system charge. Do you think I should disconnect the batteries and charge them with a battery tender?

Chris

Jacob,

Turns out one of the 2 batteries is defective and not matched. The photos show both. The A/CDelco is the defective and was installed on the passenger side. I found an AGM battery by Weize that has over 900CCA with a promotion which allows me to purchase 2 for approximately $50 more than one of the installed. The compatibility index or fit guide rates it as a match. Weize Corporate HQ is less than 40 miles east of me. What are your thoughts?

If I can jump in here I would just get 2 new batteries, they will last longer than a new and old battery. BTW the code

P1339 - Glow Plug Control Module Sense Circuit High Voltage

Most of the time means you will need a new glow plug control module, here is the location so you can change it out. Clear the codes once the repair job is completed. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
