Engine Performance problem
1997 Dodge Van V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 48k miles

no previouse problems, on my way to a job, got to my destination-parked on a steeply sloped driveway for several hrs. Went to retrieve supplies, van ran fine. On my way home check engine light came on when I tried to accelerate the van started chattering.(As if I were on a rough road) I pulled over checked all fluids -all acceptable. Got back on highway reached normal speed, until I come to an incline- slowly speed decreased, couldn't accelerate over 50mph, on straightaways speed can be increased as normal. Get off of highway normal operation response until steep hill, same problem, bogging down, chattering, no power. Crest the hill normal response.

Hello -

To better assist you please let me know if the car model is a say, B1500 or 2500 etc. Also the engine size in liter and the 8th digit of the VIN.

As for the check engine light, I would drive the car to Auto Zone (AZ) or O'Reilly's (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don't get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery and alternator.
