I have a 79 Dodge D100 with a 225 slant 6(mostly orig.) I have replace the carb, starter, coil and dist. It will sart and run just fine as long as I don't touch the gas. If I manually hold the chock closed it will accelerate but lacks top end. It will not move under its own power with haveing the choke closed and giving it gas. But will idle off the line. I can hear a loud sucking of air into the carb like a vacum cleaner when the choke is open. All the remaining vacum lines are new and free of leaks and so is the intake.

The large sucking sound you hear is the large vacuum leak tht you have causing this. When you close off the choke plate you let less air in. Get a can of choke cleaner and spray around the bottom of the carb, and all intake ports to see wher eit is leaking.
