I've got a 2001 Ram 1500 with factory towing package. Automatic trans. I've got 99K miles on the truck, and the trans is acting up. Won't shift out of first until the trans gets really warm, then shifts at an unusually high rpm. Had a similar problem once, but the linkage for the kickdown band had dropped off inside the transmission. I located it and put it back in and torques the band adjustment to factory specs. I replaced the fluid when I fixed the kickdown band adjuster, but the fluid now has the appearance of black dust in it - not a lot, but it's there. Any ideas on what my problem is and how to go about troubleshooting the trans? One more questionif I need to rebuild or replace the trans, can I replace my trans with the trans spec'd for the ram 2500 of the same year? sometimes I pull a lot of weight with this truck.
