1999 Dodge Ram 4 wheel drive

When I shift into 4 high, the 4WD light comes on on the dash and the 4-wheel drive engages. After a few seconds it starts making a noise, the 4-wheel drive disengages and the transfer case slips back to 2WD. Any ideas what's wrong?

It sounds like a vacuum related problem. Check for vacuum leaks from the engine to transfer case, from there to vacuum ball and to front differential.
