I have a 1996 Dodge Ram full size truck. While driving it one day, I parked it and went into the store, when I came back out, the engine wouldn't crank. When I turn the key, the lights stays bright. I changed the ignition switch, still nothing.

The first thing to do is feel if the starter relay is clicking. That will determine which circuit has the problem.

Since you know how to remove the lock cylinder, remove it again and look at the cam on the end. If it is cracked, it will not turn the switch quite far enough to reach the "crank" position. The dealership parts department has an inexpensive repair kit for this.

We can troubleshoot this circuit from the starter relay socket. You will need a test light or a cheap digital voltmeter.
