Purposes, replaced the egr valve assy, checked the entire engine for vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks. Engine runs smooth at idle andthru all phases of operation, no set mileage as to when lite comes on can be as little as 10 or as many as a 100 miles any ideas as to helping, fresh tune up new plugs, wires, cap/rotor, air/pvc filters pcv chvalve currently stumped, mark

Use a vacuum pump to apply vacuum to EGR valve at idle, with idle speed motor disconnected. If engine speed does not drop to drop when 2.5-3.5 hg of vacuum is applied, replace EGR backpressure valve assembly. If it does drop, reconnect ISC motor and apply 10 hg of vacuum,if it doesnt hold for 10 seconds th evalve assembly is bad. There is an entire diagnostic chart here
