Electrical problem
1996 Dodge Neon 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My dad didn't secure his prop rod for the hood. When he drove off the rod contacted the positive terminal (I think) and shorted something out. The engine will turn over but there is no electric (light, horn, etc.) So the motor will not start. I replaced the auto shutoff relay on a wild guess but it made no difference. Is the problem another relay?

Could be a fuse, fusible link or relay or a combination of them. You will need to test or at least visually inspect each one.

The ground cable off the alternator was melted in half. At first I just tugged on it to see if it was bad. The cable felt tight so I moved on. Turns out that there is a bracket midway that I was tugging on instead. Thanks for the help!
